My friend and I decided to take a trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, during the first week of September. I found a great deal on a property using the HomeAway app for only $76 per night. The location was perfect, situated on a little inlet, which I affectionately called the "side ocean". Although the waves were not as active as other nearby beaches, they were only a short 5-10 minute drive away.
Inside the unit, we were welcomed with a plethora of magazines, menus, and a
welcome letter from the owner. The owner had thoughtfully detailed all sorts of information about the amenities, things to do nearby, and any special instructions needed to use the property facilities. The booklets even had great coupons for local bike rentals, restaurants, mini-golf, movies, and more. This was especially helpful since it was my first time visiting Hilton Head, and my friend hadn't been there in over 10 years.
The property had three swimming pools, two outdoor and one indoor. Unfortunately, the indoor pool was under construction during our visit. However, the weather was beautiful, so we didn't need the indoor pool. The property provided yellow guest badges that we had to wear at all times while using any of the amenities. Although security checks for these badges, no one asked to see ours since we attached them to our pool bag.
While the unit itself was lovely, we did have one issue with a noise complaint. The unit above ours was very loud, and we could hear everything. However, the owner was quick to respond and notified the guard at the front entrance of our complaint. Within minutes, the noise stopped, and we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay in peace. Our host was very kind and always quick to reply to any questions we had.
During our week-long stay in Hilton Head, my friend and I discovered that the town is a hidden gem that is often overlooked by tourists in favor of more popular beach destinations. The relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and numerous activities available make it an ideal vacation spot.
What we loved most about our stay in Hilton Head was the sense of home that we felt in our rental unit. Compared to a hotel room, it was much more spacious and comfortable. It had all the amenities we needed, and we appreciated the little touches such as the welcome letter, magazines, and coupons for local activities and restaurants. We also loved the security measures in place, which gave us peace of mind during our stay.
Aside from the great accommodations, we enjoyed exploring the town and its surroundings. We took advantage of the beautiful beaches, particularly the ones with more active waves, and even took surfing lessons. We also went on a dolphin watching tour, which was a memorable experience. In addition, we found plenty of delicious restaurants, ranging from seafood shacks to upscale eateries.
Overall, we highly recommend Hilton Head as a vacation destination. It's perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing beach getaway with plenty of activities and attractions to explore. And if you're looking for accommodations that feel like home, we definitely recommend looking into rental units like the one we stayed in.
